On Saturday, the Jimmies participated in the Culver Invitational at the Mystic Hills Golf Course. There were 17 teams participating. Each team’s 5 players played as a group and the coaches kept the score. The best 4 of the 5 players score counted on each hole. The Jimtown team started on the ninth hole which is a long par 5. The Jimmies ended with a 364 total and placed 15th. St Joseph was 1st with a score of 299.
The Jimmy Golfers seemed confident at the beginning but by the 11th hole, the course got the best of them. The trees, bunkers and undulating greens on the back nine seem to take its toll on their score. On the front nine with the grasses and greens, it became apparent that the course won the battle. Broc Maurer led the Jimmies with a 85, Tyler Wenger had a 88, Ryan Mott had a even 100, Hunter Price had a 107 and Jeff Payne limped in with a 112.
It was nice to have Broc’s Mom and Dad, Tyler’s Mom and Dad, and Jeff’s Mom and Dad at the meet. Their support and help in looking for lost balls in the tall grasses and woods probably saved 10 strokes off the score.
The Jimmies will be back to Mystic Hills on Thursday when they compete against Knox and Triton and on Saturday in the Conference Tournament. This will give them two more times to redeem themselves.
The Jimmies next meet will be on Monday May 18th at McCormick Creek against South Bend Washington and Clinton Christian. On Wednesday, May 20th they will compete against Mishawaka at the Eberhart Golf Course.
