All-around effort leads Jimtown past New Prairie 5-3 to finish the last season of NSC softball in second place with a 12-2 league record
Jimtown beat New Prairie 5-3 Thursday behind both the bat and the arm of Ashley Alvey.
Alvey put herself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for Jimtown. She doubled in the second inning and tripled in the fourth inning.
Alvey worked out of five tough situations for Jimtown. She pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits. Alvey faced her most difficult moment in the fifth inning.
Jimtown held off New Prairie, as New Prairie was unable to overcome a four-run sixth inning deficit.
New Prairie scored two runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Toree Friedrich. Despite its efforts, New Prairie couldn’t finish the comeback.
Hannah Mahlka was charged with the loss. She lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
Jimtown never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Katie Woods and an RBI single by Kaylee Pletcher.
After pushing across one run in the top of the fifth, New Prairie faced just a 3-1 deficit. An RBI single by Alexis Fain triggered New Prairie’s comeback. Finally, Alvey got Brooke Prestin to ground out to end the threat.
