Jimtown’s Kenny Kerrn won the 100m High Hurdles at the NIC championships at Elkhart Central on Thursday, May 12, 2016. Actually the drama is much, much deeper than that, but we will cover that in a minute.
Great…….good…….awesome….great job Kenny. YAYYYY Jimtown.
Didn’t Kenny win All-Conference status as a member of the Jimmies Football team in the fall?……and wasn’t Kenny Kerrn the 145 pound champion of the NIC in wrestling? So that means that tonight’s track championship marks the 3rd sport in which Jimtown’s Kenny Kerrn was 1st-team all conference in Jimtown’s 1st year in the NIC.
After some fact checking with the Northern Indiana Conference Secretary/Treasurer Greg Humnicky, I can confirm that this is true. I can also confirm that while this has happened before (but not every year), Kenny Kerrn of Jimtown is the only athlete this year in the NIC to be 1st-Team all-conference in 3 separate sports.
This is especially significant given the fact that Jimtown is in our first year in the NIC, which happens to be the biggest conference in the State of Indiana and the BEST conference in the State!!
What was exciting about tonight’s track meet was that Kenny and an athlete from Mishawaka were in a dead heat at the end…too close to call. The starter had to go up to the pressbox to view the video. He did so for 10 minutes and ended up coming back and declaring a draw. Official starter, Mike Alspaugh was quoted as saying, “I have been doing this 30 years, I have never seen a better race than that…It was a tie”.
So Kenny Kerrn of Jimtown is declared the co-champ of the 100M hurdles tonight and thus becomes the only athlete this year in the NIC to be all-conference in 3 separate sports!!
All we can say is WOW!!! Great JOB…GO JIMMIES!!!
Great job Kenny and great job Sharon and Mark…all of Jimtown is proud!!
