Even though it is still summer…thoughts are beginning to turn toward new beginnings in basketball for girls in Jimtown.
Many of you are aware that long-time Jimtown Girls Basketball Coach Gene Johnson retired at the end of last season. What many may not know is that Jimtown has hired former Boys Basketball Varsity Assistant Coach Scott Hamstra as our new Head Girls Coach. While Coach Hamstra can never replace the wisdom and experience which was embodied in the 30+ years that Coach Johnson was captain of the ship…there are now, new ideas and new horizons for our program to pursue.
IT IS NOW TIME TO BEGIN!!
One of the things that Coach Hamstra will be working on immediately is to help rebuild the feeder programs and increase interest in Girls Basketball at Jimtown. We will start that process with some simple 3 on 3 basketball leagues that are coming up this fall. There will be two separate leagues…one for girls in grades 3-5 and one for girls in grades 6-8. Please see the attached fliers. These fliers will also be sent home with the girls in the schools.
If you have a young lady or know a young lady that is not already involved in basketball, encourage them to get involved in one of these learning experiences. Low pressure, skill building, team camaraderie and engagement are all factors that will make this camp a great way to get girls interested in basketball at Jimtown.
We firmly believe that there are all kinds of girls around Jimtown who could really benefit from the things that participation in basketball (or any of our education-based athletics programs) if they are given the opportunity.
CHECK IT OUT…GET INVOLVED….BE THERE ON THE GROUND FLOOR FOR THE RESURGENCE OF JIMTOWN GIRLS BASKETBALL!!
