Jimtown Wrestling has had a milestone this year. We have had girls that were in wrestling before, but this is the first girl to qualify for and place in a state level meet. Riley Horvath qualified for the IHSWCA State Girls meet last weekend at a regional qualifying meet. She advanced to the state finals meet on Friday, January 11th near Indianapolis.
There is currently not a separate female state finals or division for females in IHSAA wrestling (this may change in the future), but the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IHSWCA) puts on an annual tournament for schools that have girls that want to compete against other girl wrestlers to see how they stack up. Riley Horvath represents the first girl from Jimtown to not only compete in that tournament, but excel!!
We are so proud of Riley and her efforts. She has entered an arena of sport that has obviously been very dominated by lots of males. She has not only participated…but worked her tail off to get better and better. According to our coaching staff, Riley never misses practice, never complains and is not afraid to take her lumps. Riley’s work ethic and grit is an example for many more of our student athletes to follow. Of course, we cannot predict the future, but I would be shocked if Riley Horvath is not successful at anything she chooses to do in her life.
Great Job Riley and Congratulations!!
We also, really appreciate Jimtown Coaches John Brown and Jordan Eberhart, who have taken the time to help coach Riley and transport her to these tournaments. Thank you for going above and beyond.
