Call em the “Cardiac Kids” or the “Comeback Kids”…call em anything you want. Most of all, don’t forget to call them:
2019 IHSAA Sectional CHAMPS!!!
The Lady Jimmies got the job done in an improbable, never-say die fashion once again on Friday night as they claimed the first sectional championship for the Jimmies since we have been in 3A. (last sectional championship was in 2011)
The 4-3 win over Knox was won in come from behind walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 7th inning as a sharp grounder to shortstop forced a wide throw to 1st base by the Redskins. The loose ball plated the tying run, but then the Jimtown runner from 2nd tried for home when she saw the ball still rolling loose.
The play at the plate was not even close…..2 runs score….The Jimmies are Sectional Champs!!
Jimtown had a great team effort all night as there were several occasions when things didn’t go our way and the girls could easily have folded the tents up and gone home. Great pitching by Haley Holmes and relief pitching by MaKenna Betzer and Cearia Woods allowed the Jimmies to hang around to make the last inning heroics even possible. Great defensive plays in the outfield by Gabby and Gianna Desimone, speedy base running by Isabel Ortega, Jessica Alvey and Morgan Weesner made all the difference in this game.

Honestly…this was a TEAM WIN!! Everyone chipped in and did what they could to help the Jimmies. We are so proud of these girls and how far they have come. The old saying that we like to say around here at Jimtown is SO very true in this win:
“IT IS AMAZING TO SEE WHAT A GROUP OF PEOPLE CAN DO WHEN NOBODY CARES WHO GETS THE CREDIT” You could see it in their eyes tonight!! Nobody cared…except that we get the win!!
Jimtown will now HOST the Regional game here at Jimtown on Tuesday, May 28th (the day after Memorial Day). The time and opponent will be announced this weekend, but it will be either Highland High School or Hanover Central High School (not sure at this writing who won that). Either way, they have to travel a long way to play here at the “CREEK”
UPDATE: Hanover Central will play here at Jimtown on Tuesday. Time is TBA
