Jimmies News · COVID-19 will Disrupt Jimmie Spring Athletics

A most institutions in the United States and elsewhere around the Globe deal with ways to stop the spread of coronavirus, COVID-19,  Baugo Community Schools and Jimtown Athletics have also been affected.

To prevent the spread of the virus, the school has been shut down from March 17th to at least April 13th.   During that time teams will not meet.  There will be no organized practices.  Student-athletes may of course, stay in shape on their own, however no school facilities will be available for this purpose and no coaches will facilitate any workouts or practices.  Parents will decide during this time, the level at which they want their student-athletes out of the house.

The April 13th date to return to school is a tentative date.   The situation is fluid.  As school officials gather information from health authorities over the next several weeks parents are advised to watch and listen for changes to this information.

ASSUMING…I said….ASSUMING that we would return to school on April 13th, there will be some IHSAA rules and bylaws in play which would determine when contests could be scheduled and played.  All 420 high schools in Indiana must abide by the IHSAA bylaws with regards to practice time and participation rules.

All athletes must have a minimum of 10 practices, prior to being eligible to play in a contest or game.  While some spring sports have already started practices (B/G Track and Softball), others were just scheduled to begin practice on March 16th (Baseball, Boys Golf, Girls Tennis).   If the April 13th return date happens, there will be some practice time required before contests will be scheduled.

As you can imagine we are very busy in this office, planning for things that are still unpredictable.  NIC conference games and matches will be the first that are rescheduled as we would try to get those in should we be able to return to play.
