Late spurt by Williams leads Jimmies past Argos By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - Jordyn Williams hit a pair of three-pointers in the waning moments to spark Jimtown’s Jimmies to a 42-36 victory Thursday night (11.6.25) over visiting Argos in girls basketball. Williams, daughter of head coach Shaunte Williams, led all scorers with 18 points, nine of them coming in the crucial fourth quarter. The Jimmies are now 2-0 in this young season, while the Dragons fall to 0-2. A small crowd was on hand for the non-conference contest. It looked like the Girls of Baugo were going to run away with the game, building up a 13-point lead in the second period, 22-9. Williams hit a pair of long-distance treys in that 11-2 ramble. “I thought our passing was awesome,” Coach Williams said. “We were completely unselfish.” But then the other shoe dropped: The Dragons clawed back in the third stanza with a 10-5 blitz, and cut that six-point deficit to a single basket, 36-34, with just under two minutes left in the game on a three-pointer by Kinzlee Kelly. But Jordyn Williams refused to cave: “I believe in our team, that we play well enough to handle it.” She countered at that point with a trey from the side at 1:24, and was fouled on a 15-foot jumper at :54.7 and nailed the free throw for an “old-fashioned” three to extend the Jimmies lead to eight. Argos made only one-of-five from the charity stripe when the heat was on in the final stanza. “We got a little stagnant in that third quarter,” Coach Williams said (when the Jimmies scored just five). “I thought Argos shot the ball well. They cut well and moved the ball well and played hard.” Kiera Jackson added a dozen points for the Jimmies. Leah Pizzuto led the Dragons with 12 and Ellie Bollenbacher pitched in 10. The Jimmies will be back in action on Tuesday (11.11.25) with a visit from Bethany Christian. Score by quarters: Argos 7 8 10 11 36 Jimtown 11 15 5 10 42 Officials: Jimmy Arnett (South Bend), Kim Curry (Elkhart), John Walczewski (Granger); St. Joseph Valley Officials Association.
