Jimmies knock off Tippey for third straight win By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - Those long-range weapons sure came in handy Friday night (1.16.26) in high school men’s basketball, as Jimtown pelted Tippecanoe Valley, 51-43. Jackson Woolwine, a sophomore guard, led the Jimmies with 20 points, including six three-pointers. He nailed four in a row in the second quarter to help the Boys of Baugo to an 11-point advantage, 25-14, at the intermission. “I was able to stay calm and focused,” Woolwine said. “I trusted the coach (Ryan Varga) and read the defense pretty well. We had been working all week against a zone defense.” It was an important victory in the Indiana Northern State Conference for Jimtown, staying undefeated at 3-0. A large crowd was on hand for the contest at the Jerry Cook gym. It is 8-2 overall, while the Vikings fall to 4-8 and 0-2. “Jackson played his butt off,” Varga said. “We forced them to go to man-to-man, and that paid off.” He cited Dom Fey for dishing out six assists in the game. Senior Will Spurgeon cashed in with 19 points. “But we got a little lackadaisical in the third period,” Varga said. “Our youth shows, and the next thing you know, we’re in a dog-fight.” After that commanding half-time lead, the Jimmies allowed Tippey to put together a 14-7 rally to get within striking distance, 37-30. “We played with more intensity,” said Viking head coach Eli Henson. “But our lack of rebounding really hurt.” Jimtown overwhelmed TV on the boards, 31-17, led by Zander Whitaker’s nine and Tre Baldwin’s six. “Jimtown showed its ability to attack the rim, and their defense took us out of everything we wanted to do.” Owen Omundi and Wes Parker each had 14 points to lead the Vikings. The Jimmies shot well, hitting 46 percent for the game, and an outstanding 47 percent beyond the three-point arc. Jimtown has little time to soak in this victory. It will travel today (1.17.26) to South Central for a non-conference battle at 2:30 pm. The Satellites were 10-3 before Friday night’s game at Boone Grove.
