Jimtown tracksters headed to Indy for indoor state finals By Red Williams Freelancer Sportswriter ELKHART - There’s an exciting buzz going round the Jimtown High School campus this week: Six members of the girls track-and-field squad have qualified for the Indoor State Championships. They will be competing Saturday (3.28.26) in four different events at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, according to head coach Kenny Kerrn. The Jimmies have qualified in the 4x200 meter relay race with the team of Terrisha Bennett, Chloe McKenzie, Promisse Ruffin and Kylie Wiegand and the 4X400 relay with Bennett, Ruffin, Wiegand and Jeishy Lopez-Billafane. These girls qualified by their efforts in early season indoor meets in the Northern Indiana area, Kerrn said. “The top 24 in each event make the state finals,” he said, “and our four-by-two hundred team is number two, and the four-by-four hundred is number seven.” In addition, Wiegand, a senior, will be running in the 60-meter dash, where she currently stands at number 19. Also, classmate Brooklyn King will be competing in the shot put; she qualified at number six. “We feel pretty good about the effort these girls have made,” Kerrn said, “and they’re excited to be heading to state.”
