Promising season ahead for Jimtown girls track squad By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - Kenny Kerrn, head coach for the girls track team at Jimtown High School, will be envied by many: He has at least two students participating in every event. “When we began this program, we had nine girls trying out,” Kerrn said during an interview in his classroom. “Now, we have forty. “All we do is team-oriented,” he continued. “They may be competing as individuals, but everything is for the team.” The crew already has had some indoor meets, he said, and have had some practice outside, as weather permits. The Gals of Baugo launch their outdoor season on Tuesday (3.31.26) with a visit from St. Thomas More Academy, starting at 5 pm. Kerrn has 14 members returning from last season in the running events: Seniors Elliott DiPiro (hurdles), Emma Martin (sprints) and Kylie Wiegand (sprints); juniors Keke Jackson (sprints), Macy LaFree (distances), Ashlynn Sherman (sprints) and Carmen Stone (hurdles); sophomores Terrisha Bennett (sprints), Bree Curtis (mid-distances), Norah Gorbics (distances), Chloe McKenzie (sprints), Mikayla Pratt (distances), Sophie Rodman (hurdles) and Promisse Ruffin (sprints), and freshman Jeishy Lopez-Billafane (sprints and mid-distances). Returning in field events are seniors Brooklyn Barhams (long jump, high jump) and Brooklyn King (throwing) and junior Lily Steele (throwing). Kerrn expects good things from a pair of freshmen, Cami Schwartz (may be a leader in distance running room) and Khloie Smith, who might be in the top two or three sprinters. Another freshman, Jordyn Williams, also figured to participate in track, but is recovering from leg surgery and will be out for the season. “Our eyes are set on competing in every meet,” Kerrn said, “including the conference.” The Jimmies compete in the Indiana Northern State Conference, and he believes Bremen will be the team to beat. Schedule 3/31 vs St. Thomas More Academy, ECA 5 pm 4/14 vs Career Academy, LaVille, Trinity Acad, 5:30 pm 4/18 at Carmon Cripe Relays (Northridge), 9 am 4/23 vs Argos, Glenn, Lakeland Christian, 5:30 pm 4/25 at Eastern HS Invitational, 10:30 am 4/29 vs Triton, 5:30 pm 5/1 Jimtown Coed Classic, 5 pm 5/8 at Dennis Rippey Invitational (at Glenn), 5:30 pm 5/13 at INSC Conference Meet (at LaVille), 5 pm 5/19 at Sectional Meet (Warsaw), 5 pm
