Jimmies push the pedal to down South Central By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - A little extra octane in the tank proved to be the right formula Monday night (4.13.26) for Jimtown’s baseball squad. The Jimmies put up a big crooked number (6) in the sixth inning at Booster Field to break open a close game against visiting South Central and take a 9-4 victory. A two-run double off the bat of Kamden Flores was the big blow that stretched a whisker-of-a-lead (3-2) and gave the Boys of Baugo some breathing room. Freshman Logan Smith followed with a sharp single to left to plate two more as the Jimmies batted around in the sixth inning. “We kept close until that sixth inning,” complained SCentral coach Brent Jones. “That did us in.” Jimtown boosted its record to 2-1 for the season, and inflicted the first loss on the Satellites in three games. A small crowd was on hand for the non-conference contest that was delayed for an hour and 15 minutes when a vicious thunderstorm ripped thru a half-hour before the scheduled start with strong winds and downpour. “The freshmen really stepped up,” said Jimtown coach Brandon Squibb with a beaming smile on his face. “And our base-running was fantastic.” He said the rain delay was difficult to overcome. The late-inning rally also overcame some defensive gaffes for the Jimmies. South Central took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but was held at bay until the Sats scored two more in the final at-bat. The Jimmies took the lead, 3-2, in the third frame when Dalton Cook came across the plate on a wild pitch and Brodric Kaler scored on an infield hit by Owen Biggs. Sophomore Brayden Presley got the pitching win for Jimtown, yielding just two runs on two hits, striking out three and walking a pair. Freshman Camden Pappas finished on the mound. Six-foot-eight junior Brody Grass took the loss for SCentral, which will try to bounce back Tuesday (4.14.26) with a game at Knox. The Jimmies will return to action Wednesday (4.15.26) with a visit to Goshen. Score by innings: S. Central 200 000 2 4 5 0 Jimtown 102 006 X 9 10 3 Umpires: Matt Casey and Doug Odiorne
