Varsity vs John Glenn High School (1 - 4) Loss Jimmies’ energy cut short in conference loss to Glenn By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - There didn’t seem to be enough offensive oomph Friday night (5.8.26) as Jimtown fell to visiting John Glenn, 4-1, in high school baseball. The Falcons took advantage of some defensive gaffes in the contest to take an early 4-0 lead, then held off the Jimmies for their ninth straight win. “I’m glad we got to them early,” said Glenn coach John Nadolny. “Like any good pitcher, and Jimtown’s got a good pitcher, it’s important to get off to a good start.” The game was played before a good-sized crowd with the temp in the low 60’s and the sun occasionally peeking through. The Jimmies are now 8-7 overall and 4-4 in the Indiana Northern State Conference. Glenn is 12-3 and 6-1 and finds itself a half-game behind Bremen, which they will face next week. Glenn’s pitcher, sophomore Archer Rust, mixed his pitches well and kept the Jimmie batters off-sync. He gave up just six scratch hits and walked only one in a complete game. The only blip was a sixth-inning homer blasted over the center field fence by Owen Biggs, his second in as many weeks. Rust got a fast ball up in the zone, and Biggs connected for a no-doubter. Rust won a duel against Jimtown’s ace, Dalton Cook, who also went the distance, yielding five hits and striking out 10. “Dalton pitched his butt off,” related Jimmies coach Brandon Squibb. “We competed, but the error was costly. It was a deflating loss, especially against a quality arm. “We needed to take better advantage of the fast balls in the zone,” he bemoaned. “We were too passive at the plate. We lacked a sense of urgency.” After Glenn drew first blood with an unearned run in the first inning, the Jimmies loaded the bases in the same frame with one out. But the Falcons turned a double play to quash the rally. Score by innings: Glenn 130 000 0 - 7 5 0 Jimtown 000 001 0 - 1 6 4 Umpires: Gus Freda and Doug Odiorne
