Congratulations to our Spring Kiwanis Athletes!

On Tuesday, Jimtown Spring athletes were honored at a Kiwanis Luncheon at the Elkhart Aquatic Center. Brooklyn King, Brooklyn Gillespie, Jack Kite, and Brodric Kaler were honored as Kiwanis Athletes of the Spring Season. Kiwanis looks to award those student athletes who excell in the athletic realm as well as the classroom and the community. Brooklyn King: Brooklyn King is a Senior at Jimtown High School. She is the daughter of Branden King and Nicole Iverson. Brookly has competed in track and field as a shot put and discus thrower for Jimtown for four years. She has also been a member of our cheer squad for football and basketball as well as played basketball for two years and golf for two years. She has been our track MVP for three years. She is a school record holder for shot with a 43 feet 1 ½ inches for shot. She has given us 334 team points in these two events. Brooklyn was the NIC shotput champion in 2024 and the INSC Champion in 2025. She was aSectional placer in both shot and discuss in 2024 and 2025. Brooklyn was also a Regional Qualifier in 2025 and placed 2nd. She was an IHSAA state finals placer in 2025 getting 5th place. Also, Brookln was an Indoor state qualifier in 24/25/26 and placed 7th in indoor state in 2026. Brooklly has been Team captain in track 2025 and 2026. She received the mental attitude and Sportsmanship award in golf. She has a 3.0 and is ranked 65 out of 97. She has been on the honor roll 3 times Brooklyn volunteers at Feed my Starving Children, Habitat for Humanity, and she helped pack meals at the local food pantry. Her favorite memory is breaking the school record in shot put at Triton last season. Coach Kerrn,” Brooklyn is the ultimate competitor. Whether it is a practice or a meet, she always wants to win. Her ability to hold herself to a high standard has not only led to a long list of accomplishments for herself, but has also brought up everyone around her. She is a huge reason for the growth in our program and we are extremely grateful to have coached her over the last 4 years. She is loved by her teammates and always finds a way to keep the fun in things during practice and meets. I am certain that the greatest accomplishments are still to come in the next few weeks, but we are very proud of Brooklyn and everything she has given to our team!" Brooklyn plans on attending Western Michigan to throw shot put and discuss and major in exercise science. Brooklyn Gillespie - Brooklyn Gillespie is a Senior at Jimtown. She is the daughter of Tommy Gillespie and Rebecca Crawley. Brooklyn has been a volleyball player for Jimtown for 4 years, softball for 4 years, and basketball player for two years. She has been starting softball since she was a freshman. Brooklyn is representing softball. In softball, Brooklyn is batting 238 with a 400 on base percentage, 14 runs, 10 hits, 8 rbis, and 2 home runs. Brooklyn has had 6 home runs in her career. She received Most Improved and the Mental Attitude awards as well as the highest GPA on the team. She received academic all conference as well. In volleyball Brooklyn has been a key member of the team that won 2 straight sectional championships and a regional championship. She has had a career of 302 kills, 40 aces, 83 blocks, 177 digs. Her freshman year in basketball she recorded 129 rebounds and ranked nationally in that category. Brooklyn has a 4.0 gpa and is ranked 13 out of 97. She has volunteered at Feed my Starving Children, Gymtown Pantry, the food drive at school. She is the vice president of our student council. Her favorite sports memory is of Coach Dave taking the team to McDonalds after winning a tough game to tie for first place in conference. Coach Jamie Kerrn,” What I love most about Brooklyn is her dedication to the team and the game. She comes in every day ready to work, willing to listen, learn, and be coached. What really sets her apart is her consistency. You know exactly what you are going to get from her every day: effort, toughness, and a team-first mindset. At the same time, she brings a level of lightness and energy to the group that people naturally gravitate toward. She leads by example, keeps things steady, and makes everyone around her better." Brooklyn plans on attending Ball State next year and continue her academic studies in becoming a nurse. Jack Kite - Jack Kite is a Senior at Jimtown. He is the son of Michael and Michelle Kite. Jack played 4 years of football for us, 2 years of baseball and 2 years of golf. He is here today for golf but has also been a vital part of our football program as well. Jack was our team MVP in golf last year and will probably be again this year. He has a 44 average which is best for our team. He was honorable mention all conference last season. He has helped our golf team finish in the top half of our conference for two years. He has been academic all conference for the past two years as well. In football, Jack received All Conference and the team Mental Attitude award. He also received academic all state for football.Our team really missed him at the beginning of the season as he was battling through sickness. Jack also excels in the classroom as well with a 3.84 that ranks him 21st out of 97. His favorite sports memory are the golf bus rides. Coach LaFree, “ Jack is our #1 golfer with an average of 44.3. He was an honorable mention all conference golfer last year. Jack is a great leader with a quiet demeanor that is helpful on the golf course. He works really hard and has improved by 3 strokes per nine holes from last year." Coach Vincent,” I would just say he was one of our most committed and dedicated football players over the last two seasons. He had major contributions in all phases of the game as a defensive back, wide receiver, punter, and returner." Jack plans to become an HVAC tech after High School. Brodric Kaler - Brodric Kaler is a Senior at Jimtown High School and the son of Joseph and Christina Kaler. He plays football and baseball for us but will represent baseball today. He is a two time all conference selection for baseball and will probably get a third soon. He is currently batting 439, with a 600 on base percentage, 684 slugging percentage, OPS of 1.300, with 6 rbis 20 runs, 6 doubles, 2 home runs, 5 walks and 8 hit by pitches this season. He has been a huge part of our baseball program. He was a main contributor to our conference and sectional championships last year as a 3rd baseman, pitcher, and a power hitter in our lineup. In football, he was also been a vital member of our team for the last few years. He was All conference honorable mention once and All conference 3 times. He received the Jimmie Award and Team MVP. Brodric was selected as Elkhart Truth all area team as well as the South Bend Tribune all area team. He was selected as a Region 2 All Star. Brodric received both Academic All state and Academic all conference. Brodric led our team in tackles for the past two seasons as a linebacker. He was a big player on the offensive line for us that we relied on for a lot these past few years. Often he would play every down for the entire game. Brodric has a 3.67 and is ranked 29 out of 97. Brodric volunteers at the Jimtown Pantry, Baugo Lions Club and St. Mark Missionary Church. His favorite memory is hitting a home run in each of our three sectional games last season as a Junior. Coach Squibb,” Brodric consistently demonstrates what it means to be a Jimmie through his grit, leadership, and relentless hustle. Whether it is pushing through adversity, leading by example on and off the field, or giving maximum effort on every play, he inspires his teammates and elevates the entire program. His dedication, toughness, and team-first attitude makes him truly deserving of this award." Coach Vincent, “ Brodric was also one of our most committed and dedicated members of our team, he would do anything asked of him as long as it was good for the team. He played through injury multiple times his senior season. He rarely came off the field for us because of how good he was in every phase. He also earned the respect of every opposing coach we faced." Brodric plans to attend Manchester University and study business management and play baseball.
