Jimmies overpower Winamac in Sectional matchup By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - It sounds more like a football score: 19-0. That was the hurt Jimtown High School’s baseball squad put on Winamac Friday night (5.29.26) in Sectional 34 semi-final play. There was a good-sized crown on hand for the contest, which was played on Jimtown’s Booster Field. It was a warm night with the temp in the upper 70’s. With the victory the Jimmies (13-11) move on to the championship tilt Saturday night (5.3.26) with the first pitch scheduled for 7 pm on the same field. Winamac’s Warriors finish at 11-12. The Boys of Baugo will face their nemesis, Bremen, still stinging from a pair of heart-breaking losses to the Lions during the regular season. “We’ve got to be the best team to win the sectional,” related Jimtown mentor Brandon Squibb. “We need to focus on defense. Our hitting is solid. We need to avoid the physical and mental errors. We need to be able to handle the storm, and Bremen’s sure to bring a storm.” The Jimmies broke open Friday’s fracas by batting around in two straight innings (the third and fourth), taking advantage of five walks and a like number of hit-batsmen. They also pounded out eight hits. “I was really impressed with their two-strike hitting," said Winamac head coach Mark Hendryx. “They’re better than anybody we’ve seen this season at stroking the ball like that.” In the meantime, Jimtown pitchers Dalton Cook (two innings) and Kamden Flores (the final three innings) allowed just one hit to the Warriors. Every Jimtown batter but three had at least one hit in the game. Owen Biggs slashed a pair of doubles and a single, and Brodric Kaler led off that fateful third inning with a triple. Score by innings: Jimtown 007 84 19 11 0 Winamac 000 00 0 1 5 Umpires: Bob Schellinger, Adam Davis, Jeff Wertz.
