Jimmies fall in Regional to Andrean, 9-1 By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - Jimtown High’s excellent softball season came to a jarring halt Tuesday night (6.2.26) against Andrean in Regional 17 play. The Fighting 59ers (19-11) showed their mighty prowess in a 9-1 conquest on Jimtown’s own field. They now move on to the Semi-state next weekend. Their opponent was still unknown at press time. The Jimmies finish the season with the same record. The game was played in the high 70s with a soft breeze that was no factor. Some 400 fans were on hand. Jimtown struggled to get anything going against 59er right-hander Sadie Drousias, a senior who led them to the state finals a year ago. She allowed just four hits, struck out nine and issued five walks. But Andrean’s power flexed its muscles in the person of sophomore Ashlyn Hite, who hit for the circuit: A single in the first inning that gave the 59ers a 1-0 lead, a two-run homer over the 210-feet mark in left-center in the third, a triple in the fifth and a double in the next frame. The Jimmies mounted a bit of a rally in the fifth inning, loading the bases with one out, but no one could come up with a clutch hit. Their lone run came in the third when Rylan Polston led off with a single to right and later scored on a ground out. “This just wasn’t our day,” bemoaned Jimtown coach Jamie Kerrn. “We weren’t able to capitalize on our opportunities. “But we exceeded expectations for the season and will build on that. We’ve got some good pieces coming back.” In Kerrn’s first year at the helm, the Jimmies won the Indiana Northern State Conference with a 9-1 record and took the Sectional crown last week at Bremen. Score by innings: Andrean 102 141 0 9 12 0 Jimtown 001 000 0 1 4 1 Umpires: Milford Hale, Kenny Cripe and Oscar Rios.
