Will discipline, execution translate to Jimtown victories? By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - “We’re rather off the radar right now, and that’s okay. We like it.” That’s how Coach Cody Vincent expressed his outlook for the 2026 football season at Jimtown High School during “media day” last Saturday (8.8.26) at Knepp Field. Vincent begins his third year at the Jimmies’ helm, and has some optimistic strands to grab: ● This has been the best attendance Jimtown has experienced for summer workouts. ● The attitude on the field and in the locker room has been great. ● Talent and depth are seen in passing game and line play. The Jimmies are hoping to rebound from last year’s 2-8 record, which included an 0-5 slate in the Indiana Northern State Conference. They open the season Friday (8.21.26) with a visit from Wawasee’s Warriors, who defeated Jimtown to begin last season. Kick-off is slated for 7 pm. The Jimmies have a seasoned quarterback to help right the ship in Cam Inbody. Inbody, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior, threw for 545 yards and four touchdowns, which matched the number of interceptions. His top two running backs, Owen Glass and Chase Coughenour, graduated, as well as tight end Tre Baldwin, who will be continuing his football career at Indiana Wesleyan. Also missing is sterling linebacker Brodric Kaler. Filling the backfield slots will be senior Nash Hamby, who rushed for a 4.6 average a year ago and scored a pair of TDs in a part-time role, and Ben Andresen, a bruising 185-pound senior fullback. “They had some good game-time experience,” Vincent said. “Hamby runs with a chip on his shoulder.” Inbody and Hamby are two of the captains; joining them are Owen Biggs, a 6-1, 225-pound senior linebacker, and senior tight end Tucker Sahlhoff (6-2, 185). Vincent is enthusiastic about his talented and deep receivers’ room. Besides Sahlhoff there is senior Lawson VanHoozer (5-11, 180) and juniors Murphy DiPiro (6-2, 165), Zander Whitaker (6-2, 180), Torian Mieltelka (5-11, 180) and Luke Thilman (6-1, 165). Two move-ins also may prove to be valuable pieces, Vincent reported. They are Xavier Stuckey (6-1, 200), a senior tight end from Florida, and Beau Blessing, a 5-10, 215-pound transfer from NorthWood, Vincent’s last coaching stop. There’s also an impressive lineup of beef: Logan Kelley (295), Conner Freed (260), Julian Johnson (280), Mark Vance (305) and Charlie Rorie (230). New strength coach Kyle Brothers is credited with buffing up these linemen. As far as numbers go, Vincent said, “We lost ten seniors and gained twenty-five freshmen.” He feels confident some of the frosh will be ready to take the field by the end of the season. Will there be greater success? “A successful season for us will come down to doing the little things better and being more consistent as a team,” Vincent said. “We were in a lot of close games last year and unfortunately came up short. At the end of the day, you have to find a way to create your own breaks, and that starts with preparation, discipline and execution.”
