Jimmies no match for explosive Concord By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - The story of Jonah and the whale is as old as time. In this tale, Jonah doesn’t escape. Concord High School ran roughshod over Jimtown in football Friday night (2.28.26) over the host Jimmies,48-13. There was a large crowd on hand under a full-moon for this neighborhood brawl, which left both teams 1-1. The Minutemen nearly swallowed Jimtown whole in running up a 41-6 score in the first half. Officials called for a running clock of mercy in the second half. Concord used a stifling defense and an explosive offense to set the tone. “We are a team with a chance to be a great team,” beamed Concord coach Craig Koehler. “But we’re still trying to fit the pieces together. They need to learn long-term who they are.” The Jimmies had several players missing from the team. At least two were on concussion protocol, reported Jimtown coach Cody Vincent, and he cited other unidentified causes. Missing were both starting running backs, Nash Hamby and Nate Guthrie, who scored four touchdowns a week ago. “All week it was like checking the roster to see who we would have,” he explained. “They were frustrated at having to sit out the game.” With regard to Concord’s giant-whale persona, Vincent said, “This is probably the best team we’ll play all season, but the strong schedule should help in the end.” Vincent cited the senior leadership of Tucker Sahlhoff,Owen Biggs and Ben Andresen for doing their best against overwhelming odds and junior Max Ganger for his play on both si\des of the ball. The Jimmies actually scored first in the game on a 63-yard pass-run play from Cam Inbody to Zander Whitaker with 7:33 to play in the first quarter. Inbody had to scramble on the play and Whitaker leaped to make the catch in a crowd. But the Minutemen needed just two plays to gulp down Jimtown. JJ Lee made a spectacular run thru the right side for 36 yards to the Jimmies’ 39 on their first play from scrimmage. Concord quarterback Braylon Monroe then found Philip Laroche open for a pass to the endzone. Two plays was all it took. Cade Court then passed to Carson Weirich for a two-point conversion. The Minutemen then followed with 33 unanswered points to minimize Jimtown’s effort. The tale-of-the-tape clearly shows Concord’s domination, with one exception: Jimtown outgained the Minutemen thru the air with 175 yards to 142. Other significant stats: ● Concord held the Jimmies to a mere 54 yards on the ground, some of that caused by two sacks of Inbody totalling 28 yards. ● Jimtown was unable to force Concord to punt, not a single time. ● The Minutemen piled up 407 yards to the Jimmies’ 229.
