Deja vu a bit eerie as Jimmies knock off Tippy

ELKHART - It almost seemed like a weird flashback. Jimtown High School’s football crew opened competition in the Class 3A Sectional Friday night (10.23.26) with a narrow 15-14 victory over Tippecanoe Valley. The triumph reversed a loss to the Vikings, 17-15, a few weeks ago. In that contest, the Jimmies set up for what would be a game-winning field goal at the Tippe 23 yard line. But the snap went too high, and they were unable to get the kick off. This time, the Jimmies had the advantage going into the waning moments of the game, when TV lined up for a field goal near the same point. The kick failed. “It was a tightly contested game,” said Jimtown coach Cody Vincent in his email report. “I’m very proud and happy for our team. They are fighting ‘tooth-and-nail’ to continue their season.” The Jimmies (6-3) will face another tough opponent next Friday (10.30.26) in a trip to West Noble. The Chargers are 8-2 and squashed South Bend Washington, 44-6, in the opening round. They will play host to the Boys of Baugo for the 7 pm kick-off. Senior quarterback Cam Inbody used his versatility Friday night. With Nash Hamby pretty much bottled up in the Jimmies’ rushing attack, Inbody gained 84 yards on the ground in 10 carries and scored a touchdown. He also passed for 52 yards on 6-of-11 effort. Hamby was held to 44 yards in 15 totes, but also scored a TD. The Jimmies took the lead in the game with the only score in the first half, 7-0. But Tippe came out storming in the second half, Vincent reported. It scored and made good on a two-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead. The Jimmies then put together a long drive to score again and convert a two-point conversion for a 15-8 advantage. Max Ganger, a junior, may have been the hero in the game. After Tippe scored another TD in the fourth quarter, Ganger blocked its kick for the point-after, which would have tied the game. Ganger also had an interception in the first half, which quashed a Viking drive. Zander Whitaker, another junior, also had an interception in the first half for the Jimmies. They were unable to turn these into points, Vincent reported. Nate Guthrie had an excellent night on defense with nine tackles.
