The Elkhart Kiwanis Club awards four athletes each season with their Kiwanis Athlete Award. This goes to athletes who excel in their sport and other sports as well as in the classroom and in the community. Our recipients for the Spring Season were Abbey Brown (softball), Kylie Wiegand (track), Jose Cervantes (track), and Ben McAllister (baseball). Information about each athlete is shown below: Kylie Wiegand - Track Kylie is a Sophomore at Jimtown High School. She is the daughter of Landon and Amanda Wiegand. She participates in Soccer, Basketball, and track. She is representing track today, but has many accomplishments in our athletic programs. She also has been a varsity player in all three sports for her two years. In track she has the 4x4 school record. She is a regional qualifier, and 2-time indoor state qualifier, and received the DCP award. In soccer she is a midfielder for us and does everything for our team. She was a captain this past season. 1st team all NIC, received the MVP for our team, and had the highest GPA on the team. Finished 1st in NIC for assists on the season and 6th in assists in the state of Indiana. Kylie made the top 50 record list for "Girls Indiana HS Soccer Record – Single Season Assists" at (20) On top of always finding her teammates, Kylie also added 13 goals of her own. In basketball, she was a very important player for us handling the ball, defending the best player on the opposing team, and she was one of our best shooters. She had the highest 3 point and free throw percentage on the team, 2nd in assists, and 3rd in points and steals. She received the most improved award and the highest GPA in basketball as well. Kylie has a 4.2 GPA and is ranked 3rd in her class. Kylie is in National Honors Society She volunteers at Feed my Starving Children, Adopt a family, The baugo Food drive, and Top Soccer. Coach Kerrn, “ Kylie is a true captain and leader of the track team. Not only was she voted on a team captain by her peers, but she also currently has the most team points recorded by anyone on the roster. Only a Sophomore, she is a school record holder in one event and working on more. She is someone that her peers look up to not only on the track, but also in the classroom. Kylie is an outstanding role model and will be extremely successful in whatever she chooses to do in the future! Coach Williams, “ Kylie is an exceptional student-athlete who has basketball intelligence, skill, and a strong competitive spirit. She is highly coachable, and an excellent team player. On the offensive side, Kylie provided our team with great ball handling and scoring abilities, and on defense, she was often tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best player. She fully embraced her role this season and made a significant impact on both ends of the court. Kylie’s continued improvement in her game makes us thrilled about her future in our program.” Coach Fairchild, “Kylie doesn’t know the word “quit” in her vocabulary, but she does know the words “hard work” & “determination”. There have been countless times she has asked to stay over at practice and work on any skill, whatever it takes to get better. She may not be the biggest frame on the field, but I have never seen her back down from any competition. She lays it on the line 110% and as a coach, you really can’t ask for anything else. If there was one thing I wish I had more of growing up, it’s her determination. She always wants to do her best and that doesn’t just go for the field, that also corresponds to her work in the classroom. I am overly proud to be able to coach and mentor this young student athlete and can’t wait to see what else she can learn and accomplish in her young career.” Abigail Brown - Softball Abigail Brown is a Senior at Jimtown High School She is the daughter of Charles and Stacy Brown Abbey is an amazing athlete, student, and person at Jimtown.
