Congratulations to Emily Wolford, Haley Sutton, Javen Jackson, and Ty Zartman and receiving the Kiwanis Athlete for the Fall. These student athletes have shown great success in the athletic arena as well as classroom and community. They are great ambassadors of our Jimtown Community. Below is more information about each student athlete. Emily Wolford - Senior - Soccer Emily Wolford is the daughter of David and Bethany Wolford She is a senior for us and participates in soccer as well as track but she is representing Jimtown in soccer for the award. She is a key member of our girls’ soccer team and has been instrumental in the rise and success of our program. She has been our goalie and the leader of our defense. She shared the position as a Freshman, but won the position as a sophomore and has been there ever since. Making her the most successful goalie in Jimtown history. This past season she was goalie for 17 games and collected 99 saves. For her career of 40 games she has a total of 350 saves for her career. She had 14 shutouts. She has been all conference for both her Junior and Senior seasons. Coach Fairchild, “ Emily has grown into an amazing leader. She has a loud voice and used it well over the years to help teammates get into better positions and cover certain areas. She became more dependable, more aggressive, but most importantly she became a leader the team needed. She became someone the team could count on and helped push teammates forward. She didn’t stop continually trying to be better. Her hard work and dedication to better herself was more than that. She would always let myself and teammates know, “ I’ll do whatever is best for the team.” You could not ask for a better team attitude to lead your team.” She has a GPA of 4.02 and is ranked 18th out of 144 students. Academic all State and all conference for soccer. She is NHS officer, Story time club member, Hope Squad member., Baugo buddies, member of the yearbook, and part of the biomedical pathway. She is an active participant in the Global Health Leadership Conference where she scored 9th in the country in medical pathway testing. She is also NHS secretary and earned a college scholarship for academic excellence. She plans to attend Grand Valley State University and major in biology with hope to go on to medical school and become an orthopedic oncologist. Haley Sutton - Volleyball Haley Sutton is a Senior at Jimtown high school as is the daughter of Rickey and Ashley Sutton. Haley is representing volleyball today. She is a member of our first ever Sectional and Regional Championship team. She was also a member of our NIC conference champs last year. She received the most improved award for our team last year. As of Nov. 1st she had 116 kills, 90% serve percentage with 6 aces, a 1.96 server receive rating, 32 digs, and a total of 37 blocks with 12 being solo. She is a leader of our volleyball team. She is a great teammate who exudes joy while playing the sport. She has been a joy to watch play. Coach Stose - "This season, our senior athlete Haley Sutton has made incredible strides in her individual skills, becoming a key player for the team. Her commitment to improvement has not only boosted her own game but has also energized her teammates, helping us achieve greatness together. Her love for the game shines through in every practice and competition, and her positive attitude has fostered a supportive atmosphere among her teammates. We're thrilled to celebrate her hard work and the impact she's had on our success this year!" Haley has a 3.5 gpa and is 45th out of 144 students. She plans to go to college and study either education or fashion and possibly play volleyball. Javen Jackson - Football Javen Jackson is the son of Weldon and Katrina Jackson. He is a Senior for us at Jimtown and is representing football but also is a stand out athlete for Jimtown in basketball and track. Javen has been a big part of our success in football this year as he helped Jimtown win a conference championship. He was a starter and a big part of our success for basketball last year and is also a varsity letter winner in track and field. Javen rushed for 129 yards on the year. He had 459 receiving yards on 29 receptions. He accumulated 11 total touchdowns. Including two touchdowns on punt returns and two touchdowns on kick returns. He has accumulated 1,017 all purpose yards. On Defense, he has 25 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 5 pass break ups. He is also a big part of our basketball program. He was a key contributor last year as a primary ball handler and key defender. He received the Hustle award in basketball last year. 23-24 Season Stats: 6.1 PPG, 41.7 3FG%, 2.3 AST, 1.9 STL. Coach Leighton - "Javen is so much fun to coach! He is a very smart player and a dynamic athlete. He is our best perimeter defender and led our team in steals last season. I'm very excited for Javen as he'll likely be our team's starting point guard this season. Congrats on your award, well deserved!" He also runs track and excels at high jump but also runs in our sprint relays. He was a regional track qualifier in high jump. He placed first in our big invitational meet and 3rd in the Churubusco meet. Coach Vincent, “ Javen is an outstanding young man and a joy to coach. He is a very explosive athlete and has been a huge part of our team in every phase.” He has a 3.6 GPA and ranks 40 out of 144 students. He has made honor roll throughout his high school career. He also is part of fellowship of Christian students. Javen plans to go to college. He has had interest from schools for football and plans to play either football or basketball. Ty Zartman - Football Ty Zartman is a Senior the son of Seth and Anitra Zartman Ty is representing the football program today but he also plays baseball for us and even has helped our girls basketball program in practices. Ty has been a huge part of our football program being a team captain for two years now. Leading the team in touchdowns and rushing yards the past two years. He was a part of our conference championship this year as well as NIC champs his Freshman and Sophomore year. He was 2nd team all conference his sophomore year and first team as a Junior. He was preseason all state as a Senior for football. This year - For football Ty has 1,710 yards rushing on 238 carries. (7.5 yard per carry average). He has 15 touchdowns and 5 receptions for 80 yards. He also leads the team in tackles with 53 and has 2 interceptions and 5 pass break ups on the year. Coach Vincent,” Ty is the heart and soul of our team. He leads by example in all that he does, is always thinking of others, and puts the team before himself.” In baseball, he is also a big part of the team- this will be his 4th year as a varsity player - he started in center field last year and was a phenomenal defender for us and was able to track down a lot of line drives and fly balls. He has a 319 career batting average. With a 458 on base percentage. He has 21 career steals. He also excels in the classroom with a 3.95 GPA and is 24th out of 144 He has received honor roll all four years while at Jimtown high school. He was our homecoming king this past year. He also volunteers with the our school blood drive, teaching at his church St. Mark’s Missionary children’s ministry, Gymtown Pantry, Baugo Food Drive, Transformation Ministries in South Bend, Feed my Starving Children, Operation Christmas Child, Mission trips to Ecuador, All 4 Alice Toys for Tots. The clubs at school that he participates in are Hope Squad, National Honors Society, and Fellowship of Christian Students. He is in an apprenticeship program at school currently with Hoosier Crane and would like to continue his career there as a Hoist and Service Repair Specialist.
