“Exciting” season ahead for Jimtown Girls By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART – Jimtown High School’s girls basketball squad is young and inexperienced, but Coach Shaunte Williams said they are “coachable and don’t back down.” That competitive spirit has garnered a win already for the Jimmies in a 40-39 victory Tuesday (11.12.24) over Bethany Christian. “It was kind of a difficult atmosphere,” Williams said, “being in their gym.” The Jimmies won it with a free throw by Lily Gaugler with just five seconds left. Jimtown went up by seven in the third quarter, Williams reported, but Bethany came back to tie it before Gaugler’s heroic finish. “This was huge for our kids,” Williams said. “Our girls are brave and have bought in to what we’re trying to coach.” The Jimmies are in action again Friday night (11.15.24) in a home contest against a tough Bremen squad. Jimtown was 9-14 last season with a 5-6 mark in the Northern Indiana Conference South. Missing from that team are Justyce Williams, who led the Jimmies with 13.8 scoring average and Abby Brown (5.6) Justyce Williams is playing basketball at Bethel University, and Brown is at the University of Indianapolis to play softball. Heading the current team are sophomores Gaugler, who had 18 points at Bethany, and Kiera Jackson. Filling out the starting lineup are three freshmen, Brianna Curtis, Kamryn Williams (no relation to the coach) and Lily Steele. They Jimmies have some length in Steele (5-foot-10) and Williams (5-9) along with reserve McKenzie Verhoeve (6-0). The Jimmies are in a new league, the Indiana Northern State Conference.
