Varsity vs Concord High School (21 - 53) Loss Jimmies bow to Concord in neighborhood rivalry By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART – A drought of biblical proportions spelled doom Tuesday night (1.14.25) in women’s high school basketball. Jimtown’s ladies went scoreless for nearly 20 minutes, trying to fight through Concord’s trapping press defense. It turned what seemed to be a close contest into a runaway express as the Minutemen savored a 53-21 victory on the Jerry Cook Court at Jimtown. “We were planning to press whether Jimtown scored or not at their end of the court, and it worked well,” explained Concord Coach Brandon Abel. “The girls got their hands on the ball a lot, causing a lot of deflections. To be fair, Jimtown’s rather young and inexperienced, but we came out a little sluggish at the start.” “I thought we competed really well overall,” said Jimtown Coach Shaunte Williams, “but we struggled to score against their pressure. Concord is much better than their record shows. They deserve the credit.” The Minutemen improve to 7-11, while Jimtown drops to 1-17. Concord led 9-7 at the first stop and the Jimmies tied it at the start of the second quarter on a 15-foot shot by Brianna Curtis. But then the Minutemen went to town at the 6:18 mark, scoring 31 points without return to take a huge 40-9 lead. Kiera Jackson’s 3-point basket from the right wing broke the spell at 6:07. And the Jimmies actually put together an 8-0 run in the final quarter to stir the Jimmy crowd. Lily Gaugler also nailed a trey from the left side. Shelby Emerick had nine points during Concord’s onslaught and finished with 14 for top-billing. Hayden Casey and Mareiona Mason each pitched in 10. Gaugler topped the Jimmies with 10. “After the game we praised the players for their effort,” Williams said. “They continue to improve and compete.” The Jimmies take a week off and will be back in action with a visit to Goshen on 1.21.25 with a 6:30 tip.
