Varsity vs South Central Jr-Sr High School (Union Mills) (63 - 35) Win Jimmies get back on positive side in defeat of South Central By Red Williams Freelance Sports Writer ELKHART – Outstanding defense helped Jimtown’s Jimmies to knock off visiting South Central in high school men’s basketball Saturday night (1.18.25). “They have an outstanding point guard (Jay Huerta), we were able to hold down (seven points),” related Jimmy Head Coach Tyler Leighton by texting. That was a big help, he said, in defeating the Satellites, 63-35. The Jimmies improved to 7-5, and inflicted SC’s seventh loss in 13 games. South Central is located in Porter County, south of Valparaiso and participates in the Porter County Conference. Jimtown will entertain neighborhood rival Concord tonight (1.21.25). It should be an entertaining game with the head coaches (Leighton and Derrick DeShone ) teammates when the Jimmies captured the Indiana State Championship in 2004. “We also rebounded well, and shared the ball well as a team,” Leighton said. “SC is a very aggressive and competitive team,” he added. “I think their best basketball is ahead of them.” Jimtown’s 6-foot-7 center Branden King led the way against the Satellites with a double-double, scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. He also had a pair of blocks. Freshman Jackson Woolwine tossed in 14 points, and senior point guard Javen Jackson added 10 points and collected a half-dozen boards and pair of assists with zero turnovers. Leighton also cited the play of freshman Dominic Fey, who had 10 boards, three steals and one block. His senior brother Dylan Fey remains out of action with an injury to his Achilles heel. “We need to continue our focus on strong team defense and rebounding,” Leighton said. He had two other take-aways from the game with SC: “Our motion offense is very effective when we share the ball, and we have a nice mixture of experienced upperclassmen and freshmen talent.” Score by quarters: S Central 12 11 8 4 = 35 Jimtown 20 10 16 17 = 63 Officials: Matthew Casey, Thomas Hansing, Vance Carlin
