Varsity vs Elkhart Christian Academy (45 - 43) Win Jimmies rally to knock off ECA By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART – Trailing by as much as 10 points, Jimtown’s Jimmies stormed back to take a 45-43 victory over Elkhart Christian Academy Tuesday night (1.28.25) in high school men’s basketball. The Jimmies got off to a slow start, scoring just a pair of baskets in the first quarter, but put together three solid periods to finish, taking a six-point lead midway through the final stanza. Free throws down the stretch by Branden King, Jackson Woolwine and Will Spurgeon iced the victory. The Jimmies now stand at 8-7, while the Eagles of ECA drop to 3-11. “We were able to take care of the ball and contested every shot in the stretch run,” said Jimmy Coach Tyler Leighton. “ECA played hard and physical.” Injury and illness left the Jimmies with just three players on the bench. The Eagles came up with a tough defensive scheme against Jimtown’s top scorer, King, holding the 6-foot-7 big to nine points and three rebounds. Spurgeon led the Jimmies in scoring with 14, and Javen Jackson also netted nine. ECA’s Reid Hoober took game honors with 15, and teammate Kian Hibbard tossed in 13. The Eagles hit an amazing 50 percent from the floor. Leighton added, “We need to improve on some small details on both ends of the court and play hard and tough the whole game. We can’t just pick and choose.” The Jimmies will face rival Bremen in a Friday home game tipping at 7:30. The Lions are 9-7. This will be an important Indiana Northern State Conference contest.
