Jimmies’ upset bid falls short By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART – The return of senior Dylan Fey to Jimtown High School’s men’s basketball crew was the inspirational spark that nearly brought the Jimmies an upset victory on Cook Court. The Jimtown challenge Tuesday night (2.11.25) against visiting Mishawaka Marian fell short by a miserly two points, 40-38. “It was a hard-fought, defensive battle,” said Jimmy Coach Tyler Leighton. “Every shot and every possession mattered.” The Jimmies had a chance to tie the game or go ahead in the closing seconds, but Will Spurgeon’s shot misfired, and Branden King’s follow-up also failed to find the net. This knocks Jimtown’s season record to 9-7, while the Knights of Marian climb to 12-8. In his first game back from an injured Achilles heel, Fey led all scorers with 15 points, including 5-for-9 at the three-point arc, and Spurgeon added 10. “Marian took care of the ball and had a rebounding edge,” Leighton said. “That was the difference. “Our guys did a great job of executing one of our key plays,” he continued (by messaging), and they fought hard on the defensive end. I’m proud of their effort.” The Knights had a 27-15 advantage off the glass with Deuce Owens grabbing nine and Prescott Horvath taking seven. King managed just four to lead Jimtown. As the 2024-25 season winds down, the Jimmies travel Friday (2.14.25) to Tippecanoe Valley, a new opponent in the revamped Indiana Northern State Conference.
