Jimmies searching for some “fire” By Red Williams Freelance Sportswriter ELKHART - Jimtown High School’s Jimmies are prepping to open their 2025 football season, but in Friday night’s controlled scrimmage this seemed to be missing: Fire in the belly. “Overall, I would have like to see our guys a bit more ‘fiery,’” said Jimmy coach Cody Vincent, “a little whooping.” Vincent is in his second season at the helm for Jimtown. This scribe saw one instance of that during the scrimmage, which was played with clear skies overhead, but a drenching mugginess on the field. That was when linebacker Owen Biggs sacked Triton quarterback Gage Riffle for a five-yard loss. Biggs, a 5-foot-11, 210-pound junior, was one of the defensive players highlighted by Vincent, along with Brodric Kaler, Carson Reppert and Tre Baldwin. The Jimmies’ offense generated eight touchdowns in the contest, and the Trojans of Triton scored four. No score was kept, nor were any statistics. There was no kicking in the “game.” Each team was given the ball for six series of plays, the ball being placed at their own 35 yard line or the opponents’ 20 or 10. Even the reseves got in on the action in the last series. Here’s how the scoring went for the Boys of Baugo: Cooper Dillenbeck, senior QB, tossed a four-yard scoring pass to Baldwin. Another senior in the lineup, Owen Glass powered through the left side for a 10-yard TD. Ben Andresen, a junior, plunged for a one-yard score. Senior Chase Coughenour caught another scoring pass from Dillenbeck from the one. And Dillenbeck nailed another one, a 12-yarder to Luke Thilman, just a sophomore. Glass made another TD run of two yards. And backup QB Kolton Vitali hit two TD passes in the closing series, the first for 23 yards to Thilman and the other to Torian Mietelka for five yards. Vincent said he was thankful that his team finished the game with no apparent injuries. The Jimmies open their regular season next Friday (8.24) at Wawasee, a new opponent.
