The Jimmies opened up the IHSAA playoffs with a 30-7 win over a tough Garrett team. Jimtown played a very good first half, opening up a 27-0 advantage at half. Trey Washington broke a 45 yard TD, and Ethan Devol had a 60 yard run in the first quarter for the Jimmies as they led 13-0 after the first 12 minutes. A 33 yard catch by Washington set up the next Jimmie score, a 1 yard plunge by Clay Campbell. Then Cole Thompson ripped off an 8 yard TD run to push the score to 27-0 at halftime.
The Jimmies faced some adversity in the second half, as Garrett opened the third quarter with a 12 play 6-minute drive that made the score 27-7. They then recovered the ensuing onside kick and had a chance to change the game. The Jimtown defense rose to the occasion to force a 4-and-out and give momentum back into Jimmie hands. The offense then finished the game by going on two long drives in the fourth quarter with one ending with an Isaac Daniels FG, and the other ending the game at the 3 yard line.
The Jimmies travel to Tippecanoe Valley next Friday for the second round of the IHSAA tournament. Kickoff is either 7pm or 7:30pm. Stay tuned for kickoff time updates.
