The Jimmies (3-3, 2-1 NIC) put together their best game of the year in a 27-7 victory over the favored Concord Minutemen on Friday night for Homecoming. Jimtown used a total team effort to take the Minutemen out of their game plan. The offense rushed for 272 yards and the Jimmie ´D´ held the high-powered Concord offense to just 7 points.
On Concord´s second play from scrimmage, the Jimmies forced a fumble and recovered on the Minutemen 40 yard line. It took the offense 8 plays to punch it in to give the Jimmies a 6-0 lead after the first quarter, and they held that lead going into halftime.
The opening drive of the second half was the defining statement of the game, and maybe the season, for the Jimmies. The offense went 76 yards in 18 plays while taking a whopping 11:34 off of the clock, to take a 14-0 lead with 0:26 left in the third quarter. Concord scored on the last play of the third quarter to bring the score to 14-7 entering the 4th quarter.
The offense then took only 5 plays to score again, to expand the Jimmie lead to 20-7. The Jimmie ´D´ stepped up again to force a Concord punt midway through the final period. On the very next play Trey Washington took a pitch and looked contained by the Minutemen, but burst out of a pile for a 45-yard run to set the Jimmies up with a first down on the Concord 14-yard line. Trey would punch it in a few plays later to seal the victory over the rival Minutemen. Washington finished with 21 carries for 145 yards and a touchdown.
The Jimmies are back to conference action next Friday at SB Riley. The game is set for 7pm @ Jackson Field.
